In the last column I talked about being excited about the warm weather. That was spring. Now it is officially summer-summer HOT. How do you look HOT without looking overheated?
A full brimmed hat and a pair of sunglasses can give you a bit of mystery.
Sweating can drastically drain the sexy right out of you and it is noticeable. The heat can be frustrating, making it difficult to figure out what to wear. Not all garments are made to be comfortable in warm weather. Then you find yourself indoors where they have cranked up the AC so much that you wish you had your winter coat! What you really need is the flexibility of layers.
With business, a jacket is often needed, but it is ok to take the jacket off. You just need to make sure that the garment under the jacket is appropriate. It should not be too low-cut. It is fine to show your arms, but you may want to consider increasing your upper body workouts this summer just a notch or do a few pushups when you get up in the morning. Make it a routine.
If you are going out after work and will not be taking your jacket off during work, it is fine to wear a cute sleeveless top. A little low-cut is okay too -- again, as long as it is not too low-cut. Be reasonable when it comes to work. Perception is everything. If you are uncertain, take a fun top with you and slip it on after work to wear out for the evening.
Make a Splish Splash What about the pool? Poolside to errands or even an afternoon cocktail can be easy. I am wearing a Nanushka tank dress. What makes this work so well is the draping across the body in the front of the dress. The draping is flattering and because it is a bit loose, works well over your bikini as a cover-up or cute little sundress. Slip on some strappy sandals or your flip-flops and you are ready for all sorts of occasions. I picked up this adorable and incredibly comfortable dress at Eurotrash in Carytown. Pair it with a fun beach bag and some summer jewelry and you can comfortably go anywhere in style.
A hat can be fun while protecting you from the sun! Though you need some vitamin D, if you are going to be in the sun for long, consider a full brimmed hat and a pair of sunglasses. Not only do they protect you, they can give you a bit of mystery. American Apparel in Cary Court has some inexpensive options and the hats travel well!
