Kornblau earned her pilot’s license in 2009 and was searching for a way to put her passion for aviation to use for a good cause.
Linsey Kornblau, a 17-year old pilot and rising senior at Collegiate School, will embark on a solo flight across the United States in an effort to raise money for Virginia Commonwealth University Massey Cancer Center.

"Linsey's Flight for Massey," taking place August 4-10, is generating donations all summer through Linsey's fundraising Web site, www.flightformassey.org.

Kornblau earned her pilot's license in 2009 and was searching for a way to put her passion for aviation to use for a good cause.

"Like many people, I have friends and loved ones that have been impacted by cancer," says Kornblau.  "Massey Cancer Center is such an important asset to our community--I hope that my flight brings attention to the promising research and progress toward a cure for cancer taking place right here in Richmond."

So far, Linsey has raised $45,000 toward her effort. Sponsored by Eagle Construction and with her family and friends behind her, she plans to spend much of her summer continuing to drum up support and raising awareness for Massey.

She will take her flight in a single-engine Cessna, making several stops along the way to the west coast. Upon her return on August 10, a celebratory community event will be held to acknowledge the funds raised for cancer research.

"I chose to raise money for Massey so my friends, family and community in Richmond will continue to have the opportunity to receive the latest and best treatments close to home," says Kornblau.
